A picture is worth a thousand words! Make your infographic or data visualization stand out with beautiful images. Infogram supports JPG, PNG, SVG, and GIF files. In this article learn how to:
- Upload an image to your project
- Insert an image from a clipboard
- Add an image to the background
- Apply a mask
- Crop
- Add a tooltip text to the image
Upload an image
- Click the Add graphics button in the left-side toolbar.
- Browse the vast and free-to-use (CC) image, icon, flag, GIF, and sticker library or click on My uploads to upload a photo.
- Click on Upload and choose a file from your computer, or alternatively drag and drop the image file from your computer right into Infogram's editor. The file will automatically be uploaded to the graphics gallery.
Insert an image from a clipboard
- Anywhere on the web, find an image you'd like to transfer into your project.
- Right-click on the image and select Copy image.
- Paste the image into an open project with keyboard controls Ctrl + V (Windows) or Cmd + V (Mac).
Add an image to the background
- Repeat previous steps: drag and drop or copy-paste an image into your project.
- Right-click on the image and select Move to back.
- Move the image around and resize it to your needs by dragging its corners inwards or outwards. To adjust contrast, use the Transparency slider in the settings panel on the right.
Add an image to the background of several pages
- Click out of any selected objects.
- Click on Add background image in the settings panel on the right. Choose an image from the media library or upload your own (up to 10 MB in size).
- Use the settings panel to apply filters to your image, as well as adjust the level of transparency and blur. You can also change the background by clicking on Change image.
- To remove the background image simply click on the X button next to Change image.

Apply a mask
The mask option allows you to place an icon over the image and mask everything around its edges. Use a circle, an arrow, a heart, or any other icon you can look up in the search bar.
- Add an image to the project by clicking on the Add graphics button in the left-side toolbar. Choose one from our database or upload your own, make sure the file does not exceed 10MB.
- Click on the image to select it, then click on Mask in the settings panel on the right.
- Look up the icon shape you want to use as a mask. Use the search bar to get more options.
- Click on the mask or drag it onto your image. Reposition and resize it to your liking, then hit Enter or Apply mask.
- Drag the corners of the masked image to resize it.
Crop your image
- Add an image to the project by clicking on the Add graphics button in the left-side toolbar. Choose one from our database or upload your own, make sure the file does not exceed 10MB.
- Click on the image to select it, then click on Crop in the settings panel on the right.
- Use the pink dotted lines to choose the area of the image you wish to crop.
- Hit Enter on your keyboard and watch the image resize.
Add a tooltip text to your image
- Click on the image to select it, then click inside the textbox under Tooltip text in the settings panel on the right.
- Type in the text that you want to be displayed when hovering over the image.
Note: Tooltips can also be added to icons, shapes, stickers, GIFs, and flags.
