If you have two distinct variables that you'd like to compare in one chart, you can use one of our multiple axes charts (also called dual-axis charts). With them, you'll have two Y axes, and you'll be able to combine columns with lines.
There are four multiple axes charts you can use in Infogram: a column and line chart, a chart with two lines, a grouped column and line chart, as well as a stacked column and line chart.
Column and line chart and dual-line chart
Both of these dual-axis charts are essentially the same; the only difference is that one of them has columns instead of a line. These are great if you have two different variables that you'd like to compare in one chart.
Adding data
- To access the data spreadsheet, double-click on the chart or select Edit data in the settings panel on the right.
- For your indicators to be visualized correctly in these charts, add the time series in the first column of the spreadsheet, the data to be displayed on the first Y-axis in the second column, whereas the data of the second Y-axis should be included in the third column.
Grouped column & line chart and stacked column & line chart
These two charts also have two Y axes like the charts above; however, here you can go a step further by visualizing your data in sub-categories and adding multiple data series to each Y-axis.
Here's a quick explanation of the two charts:
- A grouped column chart lets you compare groups of categories, with each column representing a sub-group—they're a good choice if you have multiple categories and variables.
- With the stacked column chart, each column is split into several sections, each one representing a separate category. For example, when comparing annual revenue by country, each country is "stacked" into each column representing the year.
Adding data
- To access the data spreadsheet, double-click on the chart or select Edit data in the settings panel on the right.
- Add the main groups in the first column while adding the indicators of each sub-group in the remaining columns.
